So it's unusual for me to have 2 posts in one day, but I have to blog about what happened tonight. It was quite the ordeal.
A little backstory: A few months ago, Lucy broke one of the slats on her bed. I did a little research and found out her bed had been recalled awhile back. Dan was able to fix the crib so that it was safe for Lucy to sleep in and we've been using it ever since. Well, the company will give us a voucher to go and purchase a new crib, but in order to get that voucher we have to take Lucy's crib apart and send in some of the hardware. I suppose this is because they don't want you to continue using the cribs while you shop for a new one.
We borrowed a crib from some great friends of ours. Dan finally made it over to their house this week to pick it up and tonight we decided to take down Lucy's crib and put up the temporary one.
All was going well until it was time for Lucy to actually get in the bed. We did our whole night time routine and she was fine. Dan was putting her to bed and I could hear over the monitor that she was starting to get upset and not wanting to get in bed. I let him go for a few minutes figuring he could handle the situation. When it wasn't getting any better I went in to see what was going on.
Lucy was freaking out. She didn't want anything to do with this "new" crib and she was screaming hysterically when we tried to put her in it. We finally convinced her to get it and jump. She loves to jump and we thought if we could get her into the bed we might be getting somewhere. Well, she jumped and thought it was great fun but the minute we said goodnight she freaked out again.
We knew we were going to have to do some tough love and let her cry, but with Lucy that's hard because she throws up within a few minutes of crying. We left the room and sure enough within a few seconds she was gagging and she threw up a small amount. We cleaned her up and tried again. We left the room and stood right outside the door. She was screaming and yelling like I've never heard her do before. It was almost comical the way she was yelling my name. Then we heard a loud thud and knew immediately that she'd fallen out. We rushed in and made sure she was ok.
I decided to try the pack-n-play. I was hoping she would sleep in there. I got it out and set it up and we put her in it and left the room. Actually, I'm not sure we even got out of the room and she threw up again. This time it was everything that was in her stomach. It was all over her and the pack-n-play. So, now she needed changed and we had a big mess to clean up. I was so frustrated at this point. It was clear she was not going to sleep in any bed but her own.
Dan got the job of taking down the "new" crib and putting back up Lucy's old one. Once we did that, we took her upstairs did our night time routine again and I put her in bed and she was happy as a clam. She was asleep within about 5 minutes.
I never in my wildest dreams thought she would react that way. She is definetly attached to that crib. We still need to replace it, but I think we're going to have to buy a new one first. We'll just be stuck with 2 cribs. But, maybe at some point we'll need two of them.
