Chicken Fried Steak

Side note:
Chicken Fried Steak makes me think of my Grandpa Brown. Every time we'd go out to dinner with him, he always ordered the same thing from the menu, Chicken Fried Steak. Every. single. time!

So tonight I tried a recipe from The Pioneer Woman's Cookbook. I have never in my life eaten Chicken Fried Steak, but the pictures in her cookbook looked so delicious that I decided to add it to my menu this month.

I went to Kroger's on Sunday and picked up some cubed steak. Also something I have never purchased before.

I was looking forward to creating a big meal tonight. I was planning on making mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans as well.

I discovered after taking one bite of my chicken fried steak that I don't like chicken fried steak. I was disappointed. It wasn't so much the flavor I didn't like, but more of a texture issue. The cubed steak was tough and very grisslely. I just did not care for this at all. Dan liked it, although he agreed with me that the meat was tough and kinda chewy.

Oh well, now I know. I won't be adding this to the menu rotation. But I haven't given up on P. Dub just yet. She has other items in her book that I"m still planning on trying.

I've been contemplating that recipe and I just couldn't figure out how the steak wouldn't be tough. I'm still tempted to try it just to say I did it though...especially since I have a package of cube steaks in the freezer just looking for a reason to have died.

Tonight we had PW's Chicken Spaghetti. This was our second go at it and it turned out much better than the first time. I even had enough to put a meal in freezer!

Go for it Nicki. Maybe yours will turn out better than mine. Maybe I got a bad batch of cubed steaks? IDK. I won't be trying it again, that's for sure.
